Instructor: Charlie Kludt

This session will show and describe various suppression tactics, vehicles, tools, PPE and equipment used by volunteer fire departments when faced with farm and rangeland fires. An adaptation to the NVFC's Wildland Fire Assessment Program (WFAP) that can be used for the farm and ranch to help be prepared before and when a wildfire comes.
We will compare common training and tactics used for mountains and forests and how they are both the same and different than those used for farm and range fires.
Initial attacks, mutual aid, farmer/landowner aid, communications, and the challenges of volunteer availability.

  • The challenges of dealing with livestock;
  • Should we suppress and extinguish, or, burn and manage?
  • NVFC, State, and Federal programs available for volunteer departments that deal with wildland fires (WFAP, A-B Water, VFA, FEPP, )
  • We want to hear your departments ideas, too!
