Jeff & Cynthia Cash are from Cherryville, North Carolina and have been involved in the Fire Service for 44 years. Jeff is the retired Fire Chief of the Cherryville Fire Department in his hometown. Currently, Jeff serves as President of Bucket Brigade Consulting, LLC, is part-time Training Coordinator for VFIS NC, and is employed part-time at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He is a Past President of the NC State Firefighters Association. He has received the following recognitions: Cherryville FD Firefighter of the Year, Western NC Association Fire Officer of the Year, NCSFA Firefighter of the Year, NC Association of Fire Chief’s Career Chief of the Year, NC Society of Fire & Rescue Instructors, Instructor of the Year, the IAFC-VCOS-John Buckman Leadership Award, and the NVFC-James Monihan Leadership Award. He also received the North Carolina American Legion Fire Service Person of the Year Award. Recently, upon his retirement, he was awarded the NC Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Cooper.
He serves on the Executive Committee (Secretary-Treasurer) of the National Volunteer Fire Council as North Carolina’s Director. He is an active fire service instructor, teaching since 1982. Jeff has testified twice before US Congressional Committees on Fire Service issues. He still serves as a volunteer firefighter for the Cherryville Fire Department. Jeff is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for CaroMont Health System.
Cynthia is currently employed as Deputy City Clerk for the City of Kings Mountain, NC. She served as the President of the Cherryville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for approximately 30 years. As Ladies Auxiliary President, she was responsible for many initiatives, programs and fundraisers. She was dedicated to making the Cherryville Fire Department a family-oriented environment. She was also successful in starting the Cherryville Fire Department Scholarship Program for fire department employees and children of fire department members. She serves as the Secretary of Bucket Brigade Consulting, LLC. She received the Western North Carolina Support Individual of the Year in 2000. Cynthia has been involved with planning conferences for the NC State Firefighters Association and the NC Association of Fire Chiefs, alongside her husband. She and Jeff assisted the NC State Firefighters Association with the hosting of the NVFC in NC on three different occasions in Asheville, Concord, and Wilmington.
Jeff & Cynthia have two adult sons, Chad (Heidi) and Quentin (Erin). Both sons serve in the fire service. Chad serves as a volunteer at the Cherryville FD and Quentin is a career Battalion Chief at the Shelby FD. Jeff has been involved with Little League Baseball for over 30 years, including serving on the Little League Baseball International Presidents Advisory Board. He is an avid history buff; he is a re-enactor portraying soldiers during the Revolutionary War and Civil War. He serves as his group’s Chaplain. They both enjoy NASCAR, fishing and traveling with their family, especially cruising to the Caribbean. They are volunteers at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC. They are members of First Baptist Church in Cherryville, NC and previously taught a Couples Sunday School Class. They have been married for over 43 years and have been blessed to be a part of the NC Fire Service!!
