Being raised in NYC, departments were paid FDNY, not volunteer. I had always planned on moving to Long Island and could not wait to join the volunteer fire service. I have spoken to co-workers that were volunteer firefighters in the tristate area. Once I joined my department, I found out about their junior program and got immediately involved with my children. Once involved in the department, I learned about the struggle of recruitment and started to focus on building a strong program to feed the Company. Since then, I have ventured out to our County, NVFC and Internationally.
