The program is for small-town fire department leaders (and future leaders). It will explain the authority of the fire chief, within NFPA standards, to modify the standard based upon their department and community needs and resources. The program will give examples of how to adopt an NFPA standard and use it to the small department's advantage. The program will explore some of the popular myths around NFPA standards. The program will walk through how to adopt NFPA 1720 (Volunteer FD Organization) at the participant's department, and challenge them to adopt NFPA 1720. The program will explain how the standards are created and how they can participate in that process. The program will show how adoption of NFPA standards can improve your department and be a tool for gaining support from your community and elected officials.
